Thiessen, Gerard T.

Thiessen, Gerard T., 97, died on Dec. 9, 2002, just 2 weeks short of his 98th birthday. He was born Dec. 23, 1904 to Gerhard and Katherine Toews Thiessen at Rosenort, Manitoba. In 1932 he married Minnie Shartner at Linden, Alberta. They shared over 70 years together. At the age of 16 he gave his heart to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite.
Surivied by his wife Minnie, children Lorne and wife Josie, Crooked Creek, AB, Melvin and wife Lena, Grande Prairie, AB, Eva and husband Willard Toews, Crooked Creek, AB, Percy and wife Eunice, Armstrong, BC and Pamela and husband Jake Barkman of Abbotsford, BC, 29 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren.
Also surviving is one sister Dora Goossen of Steinbach, Manitoba and one sister-in-law Margaret Thiessen of Rosenort, Manitoba.
Preceding him in death are his parents, 5 brothers and 4 sisters.
Funeral service was December 13, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. from the Church of God In Christ Mennonite, Ridgevalley, Alberta. Interment to follow in the Rosedale Mennonite Cemetery.
